Dāvis Sliecans, a violist, chamber musician, and teacher born in Latvia.
Currently working as the Principal Viola at the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Dāvis also works as a teacher of viola performance and chamber music at the University of Stavanger.
Dāvis has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Lars Anders Tomter, Shunske Sato, Liza Ferschtmann, Elīna Bukša, Kristaps Bergs, Cam Kjøll, Jakob Koranyi, Andreas Brantelid, Magdalēna Geka, Minna Pensola, Nils Mönkemeyer, Georgy Osokin, Ella Dolzhikova, and many others. He was a violist in the ReDo string quartet and, since 2016, has enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with pianist Aleksandrs Kalējs, resulting in achievements in various competitions, nomination for Grand Music Award 2023 and tours, including a notable tour to the USA.
Dāvis's orchestral experiences include performing as a guest Principal Viola with Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Münchener Kammerorkester, Sinfonietta Riga, Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Ungdomssymfonikerne and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. He has also contributed his musical talents to Kremerata Baltica, Camerata Bern, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and Münchener Symfoniker.
Pursuing a master's degree at Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, Dāvis studied with Prof. Roland Glassl and delved into early music performance under the guidance of Prof. Mary Utiger. Prior to his master's studies, he studied with Prof. Nils Mönkemeyer at the same institution.
His musical education began in hometown Ventspils, where he studied with Andris Puzins and later in Riga at Jazeps Vitols Academy of Music with Prof. Inara Brinuma.
Davis's commitment to continuous growth is evident in his participation in master classes led by notable musicians such as Antoine Tamestit, Nils Mönkemeyer, Andra Darzins, Shunske Sato, Gunārs Larsens, Sergey Azizjan, Susanne van Els, Herbert Keffer, Stefano Carlini, Arigo Štrāls, and others.
